4:44 pm - Reminder!

Hi there - I am reminded that nobody has yet entered our current challenge by writing an inappropriate elf ficlet. I feel that the world would be a happier place with more inappropriate elf ficlets, so do, if you can, have a go.

Dear me, it's a long time since I paid this community its rightful share of attention. I will try to do better this year, and to get us started, how about a Just for Fun challenge!
A few years back, there was The Inappropriate Elf Challenge. Have a look! There are a handful of popslash stories in there, and plenty of other fandoms to give you an idea what it's all about.
So, let's try that. A totally tongue-in-cheek challenge, in which someone, somehow, is inappropriately an elf. Who? Where? When? Why? And exactly how inappropriate? You decide. A short ficlet on the discovery that the sparkly boy of your choice is an Elf.
Have fun.
As usual, post your entry to this community with a header of the challenge number and your name, and put it under a cut. Deadline is the end of February.

Time for the next challenge! A Point of View and Juxtaposition of Character challenge.
Write a short basic scene between two characters in either first or limited 3rd person POV, in which there is some small conflict or argument. Post it in the usual way and you will be given part two of the exercise!
Post your entry to this community with a header of the challenge number and your name, and put it under a cut. Deadline is the last week of October.

So I only just started writing Joey into my fiction about a month ago. Why is that? 1. I find him to be the hardest *NSYNCer for me to write 2. For some reason I felt weird writing slash about him when he's married 3. For possibly the same mystery reason as above I felt weird writing slash about hime when he has a kid
I'm facing my issues and working through them. So I picked Joey for this challenge.
Title: How Much It Hurts to Let You Go Rating: PG-13 Pairing: Choey Warning: Slash, Real people, fiction Summary: (Joey+Chris)+(Joey+Kelly)=Problems Feedback: Yes please. Word count: 1,266
( How Much It Hurts to Let You Go )
current mood: sleepy

Well. I continue to fail as mod of this community, but will try to do better. It seems the last challenge didn't hold a lot of appeal, since only two brave people had a go. I didn't, myself, though I sorta did in that the first part of 'The White Room' was doing something along these lines...
Never mind, let us move on. Something perhaps a bit easier? It's a Characterisation is my Kink challenge: write a scene in which a pop boy or girl you don't usually write is the POV character. You can write anything, including a rewrite of a scene from anything on the Permission Granted list, but if you want prompts, try any or all of these: missed appointment; studio; beer; unicorn.
Post your entry to this community with a header of the challenge number and your name, and put it under a cut. Deadline is the last week of September, and we'll try to talk about what's difficult and/or appealing about writing from the perspective of a character you don't usually use.

Wow, I'm really bad at this. However, I *will* be getting things back on track at this community, I promise!
Meanwhile, a reminder about the current challenge: it's to write a sex scene in which some other information is conveyed. Characterisation, plot point, clue, whatever. You may write the 'missing' sex scene from one of your own stories (or from any story on the 'permission granted' list), or an original scene. Just make sure we find out something more than 'these two* are getting it on'.
So far, only bossymarmalade has written something - how about a few more?
The challenge deadline is next Sunday (24th), after which we'll try and discuss what was written, or why more wasn't. Then, new challenge for the beginning of next month.

Okay, nobody - including me - did anything for the Just Technical challenge on correct use of those awkward word pairs. Obviously, we are all perfect! Yay for us!
Ahem. This time, the challenge is a bit more interesting. We've arrived at Lewd Bits.
A lot of us find it quite a challenge to write a sex scene. One of the ways to deal with this is to make sure that your sex scene is actually a necessary scene - that it's conveying information that needs to be conveyed. And yes, sure, hot sweaty Timbertricky blowjobs may well need to be conveyed, but that's not what I mean. Calm down.

or, Pen Gets Pedantic
A Just Technical challenge, because being of Irregular Habit myself, I forgot to post the new challenge at the weekend as I should have done. This one should, I think, be relatively do-able, and useful, although possibly not that interesting.
There are quite a few words which are regularly used incorrectly and seeing them makes me want to run amok with an axe. Your task this month is to write a short scene, even a paragraph, demonstrating the correct uses of as many of these words as you can manage.
For example:
Justin's curiosity was piqued by the faint sounds, and he peeked through the window. He was startled to see how JC's nipples peaked under Chris's tongue.
Peaked, piqued and peeked, and not a fit of pique in sight, unless Justin threw one because he was jealous.
If you want some more examples of abused words or to read my self-indulgent rants-cum-explanations of a few, there are plenty under the cut, and you are invited to contribute more in comments. Are there any that you read frequently? Any that you regularly get wrong? ( More examples ) Usual deal, post your entry with the challenge number and your name, and put it under a cut. I suspect an exercise like this leads rather to snark than to seriousness, but let's see what you can do!

9:33 pm - Challenge 05/JF roundup

I think that went rather well. We had a splendid bunch of drabbles of all kinds, a great variety from serious and heartbreaking to, well, not serious. I think there were fifteen pairings, only three of them repeated (it's probably worth noting that the repeated ones were JC/Justin, Kevin/Nick and... Chris/Lamp).
Thoughts, anyone? Was it easy to write a breakup in 100 words? Did the sparse form make the stories more or less effective? All comments welcome.
